     Memorial Day...Why we Celebrate

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States that honors and mourns the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties. The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May. It started as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Over time, it has evolved to commemorate all American military personnel who have died in all wars and conflicts.

Memorial Day is a time for families to come together and honor the memory of those who have served and sacrificed for our country. It's a day to visit cemeteries and memorials, participate in local parades and ceremonies, and organize family gatherings or BBQs as a collective tribute to the fallen.
