Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County Celebrates 100 Years of Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp Centennial Anniversary Celebration of the oldest 4-H Camp in New York State Riverhead, NY - Dorothy P. Flint (DPF) 4-H Camp, the oldest 4-H Camp in New York State, is celebrating 100 years of campership in 2024. This historic event, marking a century of camping, education, and leadership development, will occur over Labor Day Weekend from August 31 to September 2, 2024, at the camp at 3186 Sound Ave, Riverhead NY, 11901. Over the past 100 years, the world has witnessed profound changes and historic events, from the moon landing to the rise of the internet to the formation of the United Nations and the discovery of antibiotics. Despite these vast changes, DPF 4-H Camp has stood the test of time, promoting education, conservation, and leadership values to thousands of campers, staff, and future leaders worldwide. These educational pillars of the DPF 4-H Camp have helped shape the leaders who have driven the past century of progress and will continue to empower the youth who will lead our world into the future. Collin Hedges, Camp Director at DPF 4-H Camp of CCE Nassau, shares his excitement: "We are incredibly excited to be celebrating this 100-year milestone alongside our community. This Centennial Celebration is not just about marking a hundred years of existence; it's about honoring the hard work, dedication, and love that have been the foundation of our camp since its inception in 1924. There are not many places left in the world that can do what camp does and grow tomorrow's leaders, and that we are very proud of.” The Centennial Celebration will include an extensive mix of family-friendly and adult activities. While many of the activities are camp classics currently offered in the camping program and are great for families, some additions are perfect for solo adults, alumni, or new community members who want to get out and enjoy the beautiful property and support future programs. This event is an acknowledgment of not just the past, but of the future being built together. Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether they have been part of the journey for years or are just getting to know the camp.
