Thanksgiving Traditions: How to Create Family Fun!๐ฆ
Hello, fellow parents! We all know that Thanksgiving is just around the corner, with the pumpkin pie smell and the pleasant chaos of hosting family events. But, for this year, as we get ready to sit down at our tables, let’s speak about a fun fact that will help spice up the holidays: family traditions!
Thanksgiving is like the secret sauce for Grandma’s grandma’s stuffing — it makes everybody laugh, and it creates memories beyond the turkey dinner. My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is the tradition of going around the table and saying what we’re thankful for. You’d be surprised how raw kids get when asked what they really like — sometimes emotional, sometimes silly (One of my kids once said he was grateful for the guy who invented Legos and the UPS mail for bringing them sometimes). It is as simple as this: it gives us time to acknowledge our abundance and promotes openness and sharing.
Now, let's talk games! Who doesn’t love some friendly rivalry over bites of turkey? Just try playing a game of telephone in which a message gets hilariously misinterpreted as it goes from one person to another. We played this last year! Tip: you just might have a family full of secret wordsmiths — to your surprise! Or "What Would You Do?" questions. It’s a great way to stir up a storm; the answers are often genuinely hilarious. Just be careful not to ask questions that result in a conflict about who is more of a couch potato – Uncle Joe or your teenage cousin!
Cards Against Humanity is fun (and likely eye rolls, for parents with older children). It is essential to establish a cool, fun environment, and laughter is the secret ingredient in making it all happen. Remember to to be age appropriate...lol
You see, traditions don’t have to be fancy and time-consuming. Whether it’s crafting a fall harvest together, hosting a family movie night that includes the latest or the most ancient of holiday films, or even a nonsensical family photo shoot in matching sweaters. (We did this too) The goal is to have people feel welcome and loved.
So, let's share our ideas! What wacky Thanksgiving traditions do you have at your table? Perhaps you have afunny story from your past get-togethers or a recipe that everyone has always been talking about. If you have an idea, let me know! Share your comments on my Facebook page and empower each other to make this Thanksgiving special for our families.
Let’s prepare for Turkey Day in the spirit of thanksgiving and laughter. There is nothing like sitting around a table with people, eating food, and laughing long after the leftovers are eaten up. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ๐ฆ
