How to Celebrate Family Fun Month
This event celebrates the wholesomeness of bringing entire families together in joy and fun. Consider some of these ideas to get you started in observing Family Fun Month:
1. Get in the Water for Family Fun
Whether to help reduce the heat or as part of your regular summer fun, Family Fun Month is a great time to get out of the house and enjoy some of these great water-related options: swimming pool, backyard slippery slide, splash pad, beach, lake.
2. Host a Family Fun Month Game Day
Fun for the whole of the family is the spirit of Family Fun Month when the neighborhood and community can all get in on laughter and participation. So barbecue and mix in such classic kid-sized activities as three-legged races, egg-and-spoon races, crab walks, sack jumps, or whatever physical involvement you can muster up.
3. Take a Series of Family Fun Month Hikes
Family Fun Month is all about getting out and about. Get the kids, both young and old, out into the great outdoors to see what they can do. If you opt to go on a series of weekend hikes during the month, go to a different local site each weekend for a walk through the woods and alongside a stream one weekend; through the hills to the top of a mountain for another; along the beach and taking advantage of the sea for a third. Go on a hike any way you can think of as it encourages the whole family to get out, exploring, investigating, and working together as a unit to get the most out of nature.
4. Create a Family Fun Month Theme Song
Adding some flair, especially for kids, might be good, depending on their ages: for the competitive family, why not ‘We Are the Champions’ by Queen? For the crazy family, ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ by Prince? Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ might be the song of choice. Pick one. Choose two. Let the kids help make up some moves to incorporate. Record yourself performing – or even lip-syncing – to these tunes for posterity.
