National Be Someone Day -July 22
Make it every day!
National Be Someone Day is about taking a few minutes, even just a few seconds, to make a difference in a child's life!
History of National Be Someone Day
Founded by Project Harmony, National Be Someone Day is meant to bring communities together through education and awareness and to help put an end to child abuse.
Many people don’t know the facts about child abuse, but "National Be Someone Day" is the perfect opportunity to learn these important facts:
- An estimated 1 in 10 children is abused before they turn 18.
- More than half of child abuse occurs within the family or by trusted family friends.
- Older or larger children abuse a large percentage of kids.
National Be Someone Day seeks to raise awareness and remind community members that it is crucial to minimize opportunity, know the signs, and encourage children to talk about their struggles while listening carefully and safely.
The most crucial factor is that adults who encounter children who may be in an abusive situation should be prepared to act by reporting it. Most states in the US have a hotline that can be called to report suspected abuse.
How to Celebrate National Be Someone Day
National Be Someone Day is an important point in ending child abuse. Consider some of these ideas and resources when observing the day.
Take the Project Harmony Pledge
Project Harmony is the organization that founded National Be Someone Day. They hope that adults nationwide will take a pledge to be the person who can make a difference in a child’s life. In particular, this means learning how to stop the cycle of child abuse.
Most people don’t realize that a report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds. Whether related to child neglect, like not dressing children appropriately for cold weather or taking note of bruises seen on a child, reporting child abuse is the job of everyone in the community.

Volunteer or Make a Donation
The cause of ending child abuse requires everyone’s participation. Sign up to volunteer at a local center for child protection, whether providing counseling, offering support to kids and parents, or raising funds on behalf of a local charity.
Share the News About National Be Someone Day
Getting the word out is one of the most important ways to celebrate this day. Tell friends and family or have a conversation with a coworker to engage in ideas about how to work together to stop child abuse.
Host an awareness night at a local school, church, or library. Or share the Project Harmony website links on social media to inform others about this worthy cause.
Become a Foster Parent
Some people who are serious about helping families end the cycle of child abuse might consider becoming foster parents. These are short-term placement options for children whose parents can’t take care of them, many times related to issues of child abuse.
