Once upon a time, a quaint town called Mattituck, NY, nestled on the North Fork of Long Island, had a rich history waiting to be told. Native American tribes originally inhabited the town before European settlers arrived in the 17th century. Mattituck experienced agricultural prosperity, with farming and vineyards becoming prominent in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, it is known for its picturesque countryside, charming main street, and beautiful coastline, all steeped in a rich historical charm.

Today, Mattituck is an area of fertile fields stretching from the sound to the bay. Water-related sports abound fishing, boating, and swimming. Land activities include tennis, horseback riding, dining, and browsing the Love Lane shops.

Famous People:


Mattituck has attracted its fair share of famous visitors, including renowned American novelist Truman Capote, who spent time in the area. Celebrities have also visited the town, seeking the peaceful charm of the North Fork.

1. Love Lane Kitchen: A cozy eatery serving farm-to-table dishes with a laid-back atmosphere.

2. The Village Cheese Shop: A gourmet shop offering a variety of cheeses, meats, and specialty foods.

3. Lombardi's Love Lane Market: A local market providing fresh produce, sandwiches, and artisanal goods.

4. Junda's Pastry Crust and Crumbs: A bakery known for its delectable pies and baked goods.

 

Beaches in Town:


1. Mattituck Inlet Beach: A serene beach with calm waters, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.

2. Bailie Beach: A hidden gem featuring a sandy shoreline and scenic views of the Peconic Bay.

 

Kid-Friendly Places to Go:


1.     CJ's American Grill-

They have great food and excellent staff, and it is very kid friendly. Highchairs and boosters are available. They even have kid-friendly toys for the table and prizes. Check out their fantastic weekly specials, like Taco Tuesday and Crab legs, for an hour on Wednesdays. (Tina and Lynn were very accommodating)

2.     Burger Cade-

Mexican food, burgers, poppers, wings, and ice cream are on the menu. The place has tons of arcade games, such as Galaga, Deadpool pinball, Fast and Furious, and Wrestle Fest (to name a few). There is also a claw machine that we all love! The music is loud, and the staff is young.

3.     Eastern Front Brewery- Great beers! It is kid —and dog-friendly. They have a stage for live bands and a beautiful outdoor garden to sit in and enjoy the day.

4.     Meadowlark Winery-

Delicious wines and tapas are like chartutary boards and sweets. It is great for a get-together or party. It is kid-friendly, and they have a gorgeous garden area. It is part of Micari Vineyards. 

 

 

Farms and Stands to Visit

1. Harbes Family Farm: Check my article just on Harbes. I have even attached a video to it. This place ROCKS with FUN for everyone! Food, Wine, and Lots of play activities I love this place!!

2. Patty's Berries and Bunches: This female-owned farmstand is located on the North Fork of Long Island, NY. Initially opened in 1975 as Harbes Berry Farm, it was later renamed Patty's Berries and Bunches in 2010. The farm offers U-Pick and ready-picked strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries, as well as a variety of flowers for weddings and events. The farmstand also sells ice cream, cider, baked goods, honey, jams, and veggies and features yard art and photo opportunities for visitors.

Mattituck Historical Society- " “Discover what’s old and new as you browse our pages and whet your historic appetite. Visit in person, join as a member, or contact us for information. Our exhibits/collections are growing and our members take pride in making the past a present to you.” 

Mattituck Yacht Club- "Located on the Peconic Bay,  our program promotes sailing, seamanship, and sportsmanship through educational and social programs. MYC welcomes families, adults and couples and has sailing instruction for ages five years old and up."
