The Child ID program is a community safety initiative sponsored by Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr., and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. It provides a Child ID Card for parents to record their child's height, weight, hair color, eye color, fingerprints, and photographs. Authorities can use this information if a child goes missing, helping to ensure a rapid and effective response.

As of 2021, missing children statistics indicate that approximately 365,348 missing child reports were filed in the United States. Parents should consider getting their children a photo ID and fingerprints as a precaution. If a child goes missing, having up-to-date identification and fingerprints can significantly help law enforcement agencies in their search efforts.

What do you do if your child goes missing?

It's essential to act quickly and remain calm.

Here are the steps to take:

1. Check your home thoroughly: Look in closets, under beds, and any other place your child may be hiding.

2. Contact family and friends: Tell them your child is missing and ask if they have seen or heard from them.

3. Contact the authorities: If you have searched your home and contacted your family and friends without finding your child, call the police and report your child as missing. Provide as much information about your child as possible, including recent photos and physical descriptions.

4. Search the immediate area: If it's safe, search the area around your home and any places your child often visits.

5. Keep a record of events: Write down all the details about when you last saw your child, what they were wearing, and any other pertinent information. This will be helpful for the authorities and search teams.

Remember to stay hopeful and cooperate fully with the authorities during                                                              the search process!
