Make Your Garden Plan - Just Like 100 Years Ago

Farmers have been planning for twelve thousand years! When to plant, what to plant, how deep, when to hatch, when to breed? The list goes on. We still do! Our bulbs have been on the ground since before Thanksgiving (we plant two million new ones every year, so they are even more beautiful for your visit).

A hundred years ago, Long Island had forty thousand acres of potatoes. Now, we make chips and vodka. Some hundred years ago, Long Island was also home to the largest duck farm in the world, right in Eastport (sort of between our Manorville Farm and Riverhead Farm).

Before Prohibition, New York State was the epicenter of brewing beer. Hops are returning on Long Island—so much so that we named our mascot, Dutch Rabbit, “Hops”! Visit our Greenhouse and let us help you plan your own backyard “farm.” Remember, Serotonin in soil elevates us—it makes us feel better and more hopeful! Begin with an early Spring stroll through our colorful, magical Waterdrinker Greenhouses!
